While playing Baseball at the University of Miami I worked in the Summer and during Christmas Break for two of my coaches, Red Berry and Ron Fraser. During my first year I worked at the Ron Frasers Sports Camp on the campus of UM. Then during my second year Red Berry offered me more money to work at Red Berry’s Baseball World, a new facility he built in Kendal. After working 10 weeks of camp for Red, I became familiar with the format of the camp. It was the same format he had been using for 15 years. After graduating I began my coaching career back in Jacksonville where I went to Junior College. It was there that we used this format for camp and it became a success in Jacksonville. Six years later I was hired as an assistant coach at Central Florida CC in Ocala. We used the same format there for 12 years before being hired at IRCC. I started the camp here and we have had as many as 177 campers in a one week session. I have made small adjustments along the way but for the most part the format has not changed for over 35 years. “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”.
